July 8, 1773.  No. 443.

On hearing of the summons by the Sheriffs,
Mr. Oliver and Sir Watkin Lewis to Mr. Wilkes, for attending his seat in Parliament, instead of Mr. Henry Lutterell, as Member for the County of Middlesex.

WELL done my boys sure ne’er till now,
   Such matchless feat before;
Ev’n Caesar’s self, with all his brow,

Cou’d never have done more!
Well done, my
LADS! ’tis but to mind                                                       5
   The track you’ve now begun,
And sure as truth is truth you’ll find,
   That half your work is done.
Unite — consult — undaunt proceed,
   ’Till each imposter flies;                                                                      10
And Britain’s sons from fetters freed,
   From arts to
ARMS arise.
Heav’n bless your deeds, and bless the shrines
   On which your busts shall stand;
The one more bright than C
ROMWELL shines,                                        15
   The other than Le Grand.*

*Louis XIV of France. [back]
