To the
P R I N T E R S.

By giving the following a Place in your Weekly Paper, you will oblige,

GENTLEMEN,

Yours, &c.

ANONYMOUS.

An Acrostick

Muses approach, and touch my trembling String,
Inspire my Song, and grant me Pindar’s Wing:
Some God assist, and guide the feeble Quill;
Such Charms to sing! does far exceed my Skill.
Presume I then! to name that charming Name,
5
Or stain it’s Lustre with so mean a Flame.
Languish I must, and to myself complain,
Learning and Reason’s Aid, Alas! are vain;
You, lovely Maid, can only ease my Pain.
I own, indeed, your Virtue and your Charms
10
Sublime, might justly claim a Monarchs Arms.
But can base Wealth, or Grief, or Pain, prevent?
It’s Innocence and Love that yield Content.
Sordid Gold has no Charms, that can me please;
The World, without thee, ne’er can give me Ease.
15

Eternal Sorrow must my Portion prove,
Receive my Hand, and bless me with thy Love.

Quebec,
9th October, 1765.
