PREFACE.
|
|
For
the few who read this preface, it will be sufficient
to say, that the aim of the following story has
been chiefly to illustrate how great a blessing
may flow from an affliction, if met and borne in
a spirit of faith and Christian cheerfulness. It
has also been written to show how many simple pleasures
may, in God’s gracious providence, brighten
what might seem, at first sight, a sad and cheerless
lot: and how much good may be done by any one, however
lowly, who endeavours, in the strength and love
that Christ can impart, to live truly and earnestly
the life He has appointed, since—
“That
creature best has ministered
Which
is what it was meant to be.”
